Chinese potato

The egg-shaped tubers are similar to our native potato and native to India and west Africa. It is Cultivated majorly in west Africa and South east Asia. No one know who gave the name Chinese potato as it is said that is available since 1440.

  • Chinese Potato is useful in treating stomach disorders, vomiting, diarrhea, mouth and throat infection, abdominal pain, wounds, burns, insect bites and other sensory disorders.
  • This plant is rich in vitamin B6 that maximizes the metabolic processes and efficiency of various organs.
  • It is said that eating this Chinese potato can prevent against inflammation in case of body weakness, sore arms and also prevent which is caused due to deficiency of Vitamin C.
  • Chinese potato is beneficial for during pregnancy period. It is suggested that instead of pills, females can consume this plant which helps in replenishing the requirement of folate content.

      1. travel can never be bad Chiru, unfortunate use of that word … I have been nomadic for longer than you’ve lived and never had a home base … now that home base and settling has become my priority 🙂

Chinese potatoes has a distinct smell and flavor which remains intact even after cooking, which gives it’s special flavour to the dish… Taking out the skin is the most difficult part of preparing this into a dish. Easiest being soaking it overnight in water and putting them into a cloth or net like bag and rubbing against a rough surface can remove three fourth of it’s skin…after which it is manually cleaned and chopped up and cooked and eaten up. But worth the effort i would say.
    The image of Chinese potato done in Chinese style with chopsticks is amazing.
