Papaya
Papaya is one of the healthy tropical fruit that is delicious loaded with nutrients. It’s believed that papaya is native to tropical America, with early origins in Mexico and South America.
Pros of eating Papaya
- Papaya contains vitamin C, potassium, antioxidants, and fiber, which helps keep your arteries healthy and promotes blood flow thus protecting your heart.
- Papaya is said to have anti-cancer properties due to its ability to reduce free radicals that lead to progression of cancer.
- Papaya contains nutrients like lutein, zeaxanthin, vitamin C, and vitamin E, which can protect the eyes and help prevent eye diseases
- Papaya has been used traditionally for the treatment of digestive disorders. It is used for the treatment of skin diseases such as cuts, rashes and stings.
- In addition to keeping your body healthy, papaya can also help your skin look more toned and youthful. If you want a fair skin then Papaya should be the first choice.
- Raw papayas contain a lot of heat that help in stimulating the production of estrogen in the body, which results in normalizing periods. Even Doctors suggest papaya to be the best home remedy to control irregular periods.
Cons of eating Papaya
- If the papaya is eaten in more amounts, it can adversely affect your skin because the beta-carotene present in the fruit can produce discoloration of the skin.
- Pregnant ladies should not eat papaya as it can cause abortion.
- Having large quantities of papaya orally can damage your esophagus, the food tube that connects your throat to your stomach.
- It is not recommended to eat papaya during periods and empty stomach as it can cause over flow of bleeding as it contains a lot of heat.
Is papaya the botanical name or that’s what you call it in your language? Because here we call it something different in English.

Wow… that is interesting having lived in North America, traveled lived in many states, and being a teacher it had always been “Papaya.” Although, I have never traveled to the Caribbean, it’s Dream Vacation place. I can see how it would be looked as “Pawpaw” by dropping “ya” which makes “yah” sound. I love ❤️ either way.

Papaya also increases the platelet count naturally. It is recommended in Dengue Fever. Otherwise good info…

Papaya does not cure Dengue*, if you have been infected for the first time then you will easily develop antibodies and will start feeling better. Papaya only acts by increasing the platelet which decreases during the infection. If it severe then papaya will do nothing.

May be.. I have heard that it cures.. but it does help for sure.. we don’t have enough proof for vice versa as well

We have enough proof and it also available. Otherwise everyone would have recovered by consuming papayas…

Yes I agree with your parents..
The taste is so delicious that u cannot control your kids.. and our parents says it has too much heat.. the more you consume the more it will have effect on ur stomach specially for girls.. but yes as long as it is within limit there’s enormous benefits.

Thanks for this post Chiru. You have cleared the pros and Con’s clearly. Greatly beneficial as ever.
And it is the juice extracted from the papaya leaves (which of course tastes yuck) which increases the count of platelet in our blood which helps in curing Dengue fever. The platelet count is affected badly in Dengue and in some severe case of Malaria fever.
And many of the doctor practitioners of allopathic medicine recommend this as a home remedy.
Hope this helps.
